Re: AR Front site sling thing question
Your front sight is strong enough provided that the front sight base pins are tight (or if it's a screwed on, the screws and tight). However, I wouldn't have anything mounted to anything that can transfer handling motions to the barrel. This is the same reason why many people change their standard handguards to use free floating handguards instead: nothing touches the barrel when you handle the rifle results in better accuracy. Attaching a sling to the front sight means that any sling motion will need to be compensated for when aiming, one more factor to worry about during follow up shots' sight acquisition.
In other words, don't do it.

Re: AR Front site sling thing question
You could always go with the blue force gear solution:

Got good reviews over on m4c.

Re: AR Front site sling thing question
The answer is in the first sentence of my original reply, but I should explain further. Standard pins and standard front sight will do just fine. They are very, very tight and there are actually pin "grooves" or holes (like this one: http://ee.ar15.com/uploadImages/2009...62500_File.jpg ) under the barrel where the pins fit through to prevent the sight from moving/canting under virtually any force. If you have a non-standard front sight base, where screws are used instead of pins, and the screws don't go through the grooves/holes, the screws need to be properly tightened as they WILL cant/move under sufficient force.
