    Default mailing ammunition

    does anyone know if there is any restrictions on sending ammunition thru the mail ?

    Yep. You can't (legally) do it. You must send it common carrier (UPS, FedEx) and mark it ORM-D. It also must go ground service, not air.

    Not in my experience. AFAIK, you don't need to "declare" that it's ammunition, just mark the package ORM-D. I believe the volume of "dangerous/hazardous" material comes into play, so if you were sending a 5 lb. container of smokeless powder, for example, you should expect to pay the hazmat fee. In assembled rounds, the powder is a tiny percentage of the overall package weight.

    Machine parts?? I mailed some UPS one time, only because I was not aware of the law. I bought a firearm off the internet from a guy that I swear took it to the USPS and mailed it himself. Not condoning violation of any laws, but I am sure some people do.
