Re: Ar-15 vs Sig 556
I love both but in all honesty, I have built two cool Del-ton ARs for the price of one SIG 556. A friend of mine has the SIG and I do think it is cool..it's just not double the price cool.
Maybe for the 4th or 5th AR I would save up and splurge for the SIG. FYI, there is a $300 rebate on them if you buy it before March 8th.

When the zombies come AR parts will be easier to find if you have a failure of any type.

Re: Ar-15 vs Sig 556
I love my Sig556. I just got my down turned charging handle to clear the eotech mounting hardware today. I'll admit it requires some adjustment when one is intimately familiar with an AR i.e. bolt release is not as simple as slapping the side of the receiver like the AR was. Oh boy does it like to mark brass is strange ways too. After owning both an AR and Sig I would reach for my Sig if something wicked came my way.

Re: Ar-15 vs Sig 556
I have both and I love them both.
However I would say that the AR, to me, is the easier platform to disassemble, but the SIG is easy to clean as the piston system does keep it clean.
For the reliability of the piston system, I would disagree with those who say that it is too new. The Piston system of the 556 is the same system as the SIG 550 series of rifles that have been around the early 80's and no one has ever stated that it does not work. And this piston system is actually an Swiss update of the AK system, and no ever said that system is not reliable.
The two rifles have basically the same upper receiver and the 556 will accept the 550 lower if you wanted that 550 look and use of the 550 type magazine. No man’s life, liberty, or properties are safe while the legislature is in session.

Re: Ar-15 vs Sig 556
I have a bunch of AR's and a SIG P556, the pistol version of the 556.
If you don't have an AR, get an AR. If you already have an AR, get the SIG.
I have handled quite a few ARs, including some premium ones, but NONE built like the SIG. There is something about the quality that just feels like it's unbreakable. It's super reliable and I rarely ever clean my SIG other than bore snake the barrel. I have as much confident in its reliability as I do with my Glocks. My P556, 30rds-coupled mags, with an attached TLR-2 light/laser sight sleeps next to me.
I'm an AR fan and love to custom them, something I can't do with the SIG. I've replaced the SIG cheap plastic handguard with the Samson rails. In the process, I had to replace the rear sight. If you get a 556, get the "tactical" model so you don't have to upgrade later. Unlike ARs, which seem to constantly demand upgrades, the SIG will be as good as it gets without wondering if you should or shouldn't...which is actually a rather nice thing.

Agree, but...
"Unlike ARs, which seem to constantly demand upgrades, the SIG will be as good as it gets without wondering if you should or shouldn't...which is actually a rather nice thing."
I think this is probably more an issue with folks liking to tinker and customize their AR to "make it their own" or somehow "make it better" (especially with the vast availability of parts to do so!!), rather than the gun itself demanding an upgrade.
I switched to MOE furniture cause I look cool now and girls date me, not because I or anyone else had to.All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

Re: Ar-15 vs Sig 556
So your Sig cleaning procedure is the same as my AR cleaning, Boresnake on occasion if I think of it.
I'm gonna have to echo nfafan here, I don't think that the Sig feels perfect the way it is so much as it is there's nothing much you can really do to it. No AR I have ever owned "demanded" anything other than quality magazines and fresh ammo. However as there is a wide range of accessories available I am able to configure the rifle to what I need it to be so that I can run the rifle comfortably (still looking for an overgrip for my MIAD though).Warning: I may not read responses to OP before posting
