Re: scotia trip 1/31/10
I've lived here all my life and never been to scotia range. A friend who belongs to the Spring Mills fish and game association took me there and it seemed like a nice range. There was no "range officer" and we were able to shoot and converse with others who enjoy the sport. A trip to Spring Mills might be worth it to avoid this in the future.

Re: scotia trip 1/31/10
I take my 12y/o niece to Scotia, and I she shoots her 10/22 at 25yd ux range, and I don't see anything wrong with that.
heck I was shooting my AR at 25yd range couple of weeks ago.
But usualy thats when noone else is shooting at the range(we normaly go there during weekdays).
If someone is shooting pistol/wants to shoot pistol, I'll make her switch to pistol(as I), or move over to rifle range.
with little communication, you can get manythings accoplished.
With that being said, yeah, there were some real Dbags time to time during the school year.Audemus jura nostra defendere

Re: scotia trip 1/31/10
I too have had a few bad experiences at Scotia. Sometimes when the full range is open I am the only person, other times when I expect the range to be open it is closed and the outside range is full.
After getting tired of wasted trips, I found Spring Mills Fish and Game that was mentioned previously and also East End Blue Rock Sportsmans (no website) at Milroy. Good people, decent shooting ranges, and I think the extra time on the road to get there is worth it. I still use Scotia occasionally, but now I have other good choices.

I do start to look in to all other local ranges. While I truely appriciate free range, rules they have starts to annoy me a little.
For instance, my niece likes these rubber spinny target(let's face it, shooting is much more fun when you can see what you hit), but Scotia is paper target only.
And 3 rounds in rifle rule is stupid in my opinion too..
Oh and cocky college punks annoys me tooAudemus jura nostra defendere

Re: scotia trip 1/31/10
whoops..... after everyone left i may or may not have broken that rule....
i dont mind throwing a rifle on my shoulder at the 25 yd range but again like you said thats only if noone is there.... to be shooting your ar while we're there trying to shoot on the "Pistol" range is a little idiotic if you ask me... anyway im over it... hopefully it doesnt happen again to anyone cuz that sucked....
