    Default rifle painting

This may be the wrong section but.....

While doing some work on my saiga I am planning on a nice paint job. The high heat paint I was planning on using directs baking it on at up to 650 F. My question is; Is this temperature safe to put the whole reciever/ gastube and barrel in as a whole unit..or could this temp warp or damgage it in any way?

I've never heard of baking at that high of a temperature.

I've used Duplicolor VHT. I've never baked it at a temperature over 250.

I would break down all of the major parts, just being certain to mask off any parts that would cause fitment issues with a layer of applied paint. Basically, don't get any paint on the internals of the gun.

As for the paint, have you considered Dura Coat? If you are serious about getting a great paint job, i'd go with Dura Coat. It will last much longer than a traditional can of spray paint. Plus you can get it in a TON of different colors.

    Here's a link to check out. http://www.lauerweaponry.com/

How do springs hold up to heat? I wouldn't be worried about the rest of the parts, but for some reason I remember something about heat messing up springs. Is that hot enough to make a difference?

Yes, even a couple hundred degrees can have adverse effects on springs and any plastic part.

You should always disassemble the guns for this type of finishing. ...because you'll have to degrease it completely, absolutely in it's entirety, to have a uniform finish.
