I know your sick of these questions
I know you are all tired of the AK questions but here goes anyway. I don't own an AK have a couple AR's (Rock Rivers) that I love. I discovered that I have turned into a gun collector without even knowing about it. I don't really have the money for high dollar guns at this point in my life but instead have been concentrating on quantity of firearms (good quality without getting carried away). For example last fall I was looking at a very nice Kimber 45. However I passed and over the next month bought an SR-9, LCP, and a Ruger Mark III all for about the same price as the Kimber. The other thing is when I buy guns they all get shot. I don't have any "never fired collectible" types.
So now that you have a little background my question is this. What does anyone know about the American made AK's like this one from IO Inc. I do want mine to have a composite stock http://www.davidsonsinc.com/consumer...c=50&item_num=

Re: I know your sick of these questions
I don't have any experience with that rifle, nor have I really heard of any reports. I will say this.
That rifle is not 100% US made. I don't know any US company that is making bolt carriers, RSB, and front trunnion yet. What that probably is is a mixture of US and Romanian parts. Personally, I would stay away from it.
If you really want an AK and don't want to spend a lot of money look for the following:
Romanian WASRs (AIM Surplus, Classicarms.us,etc) ~ $350
Yugoslavian M70s (classicarms.us) ~$499
Egyptian Maddis (Atlantic Firearms) ~ $540
Another option would be a chinese Mak90. If you want the "AK" look you would have to de-ban it. So there is extra cost. They run $400 - $600.
Hope this helps

Re: I know your sick of these questions
If you are just getting into AKs, I would second getting a wasr from aim or classic. These usually function fine.
Once you get to know the gun you will decide what you want in the next one.
And buy all the cheap mags and ammo you can.

Have a look at this thread:
http://forum.pafoa.org/rifles-42/87215-ak-page-2.htmlGloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"

Re: I know your sick of these questions
Thanks for the help so far, Also I should mention that I would also like to just buy one at a gun store instead of ordering and having them ship it to a store. The reason may sound strange but I would like to handle and get the feel of one before I buy it. I guess because I never held an AK

Re: I know your sick of these questions
Go to Dunhams.
They have wasrs in stock and are usually not bad pricewise.

Re: I know your sick of these questions
A lot of gun shops use that as their on-line shopping site. But I see what your saying now.
Good luck. Your not going to find a whole lot of variety locally, plus most of the time it will be a little more expensive.
Dunhums: Should have WASRs, Yugos, and Hungarian AMDs
Ace Sporting Goods: WASRs .. they might have a Saiga (you would have to convert these)
Other small shops will be hit and miss. Other than the 4 mentioned above, you aren't going to really find anything else. I guess it's not a big deal, because the WASRs or Yugo should fit your needs.
