Default Transporting shotgun in other states; NY, MI, OH, CT, RI

A few times a year I travel for business throughout the northeast. Because my teenage daughter sometimes accompanies me, I am a little concerned about protection in the event I break down on some deserted back road somewhere. I'd like to start carrying a single-shot shotgun, in a case of course. Does anyone else travel the northeast and bring a firearm with them? Any suggestions? Am I stuck with pepper spray? Thanks.

Depends on exactly what your final destinations are. I believe PA and MI have reciprocity, so a LTCF will work for that no problem. With a FL or UT permit, you'll get OH. You can also get a CT permit by mail. NY and RI are going to be very difficult to get. Federal law allows transport through those states, as long as you don't stop for anything other than gas and maybe food. But if the destiantion is NY or RI, now you've got a problem.

For a long gun in NY or RI -- unloaded and in a case . ( does not have to be in the trunk )
