Re: Charter Arms - old style
I got this Stratford "pocket Hammer" snubbie for $50. It looked to have never been fired. I think it is late 1970's. Cylinder lock up when hammer falls is superb.

Rundownfld,
If you gun has 6 digits, i.e. 885K, It was made sometime in late 1983 or early 1984. The "POCKET HAMMER" looks to be the original factory issue.
Nice gun - exceptional price - good buy.Jim Hauff H&R Collector In memory of my friends Bill Goforth and Jim Ritchie.

Re: Charter Arms - old style
I just picked this "Off Duty .38 Spl" STRATFORD CONN serial 9789xx
Took it to the range & put 70 rounds through it, no problems except for the beating it gave my hand ...Pachmayr compact grip already ordered
The red dot ramp front site is much better than the regular ramp. If they brought it back on their new guns as a white dot it would be perfect.Last edited by carwash; March 24th, 2014 at 08:17 PM.

Re: Charter Arms - old style
Hi, I am a new member and I found pafoa by google search. I just bought an unfired Charter Arms Police Bulldog .32 magnum and I was hoping to find out as much as I could about the gun. I unfortunately only have the gun and no box or paperwork. Any replys are appreciated as to finding out anything about this piece.

Re: Charter Arms - old style
How do the current Charter Arms .38 Special snubnose revolvers rate compared to the old school ones? I see them all the time at gun shows and the prices are very reasonable. Are these guns a bargain or a waste of money?

Unfortunately, James Hauff(aka "32 Magnum"), passed away on Oct 12, 2012. His kinfolk decided not to follow in his footsteps and auctioned off most, if not all, of his firearms. I'm not sure what they did with his notes he kept.
The Bulldog series has been made since 1971. And there are 3 "eras" of Charter based upon where they were manufactured and the general consensus of quality of those eras. If I remember correctly, the 1st era were deemed to be the best. The middle era the worst. And present era in the middle for quality.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515
