Yeah, I did the same thing, got my new G39 home, wanted to field strip it and check it out - saw this wierd color, cleaned it all out and put a little grease and oil - then red about the copper grease - my bad ! I hear it's good to keep in there, but not a problem if you take it out. I tried blaming the 2 or 3 stovepipes on it, but my limp wrist didn't let me

you can leave it in place or you can clean it out...doesn't really matter.

you have to work *a lot* harder than that to f' up a glock.

I think it is made by Permatex, called copper anti-seize. You can get it at NAPA Auto. A little will go a long way.

I am one of the guys that goes against what the maintenance manual says to use and I use grease on the rails and wipe down the pistol with oil. I rarely clean my Glock aside from running an oily patch through the barrel. Every 500 to 1000 rounds or after a 700 t0 800 round 3 day class, I'll detail strip the gun.

The manual will tell you how to lube the pistol. A few drops of oil here and there. I guess since mine came with grease, I use grease. I have gone shooting when it was 3 degrees on a thermometer in my truck without the gun malfing (some people have had lube cause problems in extreme cold).

Just a few of my thoughts.
