Default OC encounter at Summit Lanes in Pocono Summit

Last night my father and I went to bowl a couple of games at Summit Lanes, it's a bowling ally in Pocono Summit/ Mount Pocono. I was open carrying my XDM 9mm like I always do with a medium short sleeve tshirt. This was my first time carrying while bowling, I was worried at first that it would get in the way, but it really didn't. We orignally bought 3 games, so we bowled our first game, but we took our time by this time we had been there for 45-60 min. We were on the second game at about the third frame when the manager came up to be and said I couldnt have a gun in here.

Manager - "You can't carry that in here (pointing at the gun).
Me- "I didn't know that I didn't see ant signs anywhere indicating that policy"
Manager- "Yea I always ask people to put it in their car when I see someone carrying, or else you must leave"
Me - "I wouldn't feel safe putting in my car, could I just get my money back for the games we did not bowl yet?"
Manager - "Thats fine, they will have your money up front."

Now my father just bought a pitcher for us to share that was only 1/4 empty the manager saw this so I asked...

Me - "What about the drinks? Could we at least finish them?"
    Manager - "Yes you can"
Me - "Can I keep my gun on me?"
Manager - "Yes, but just finish them in the bar."

I went to the get my money back and we finished our drinks. I've been OCing for a month now and that was my only real world encounter. Overall it was neutral/positive encounter. The guy wasn't really a pain.

Sucks you had to leave but like you said, kinda neutral encounter. He could have had you tossed out on your ear. He let you have your money back and didnt rush you out the door.

    Bummer you had to leave.

Lesson learned. Glad you got your money back.

On a side note...I also wondered about the sidearm getting in your way. Going through the technique of bowling in my mind, I can see your arm hitting it on the back and/or forward swing of your arm.

I'm not bashing your choice to OC while bowling...I'm just trying to picture how I would do it successfully.

It all depends on where you carry. Far back or far forward shouldn't be an issue, but 9/3 would likely result in a broken elbow for me.

We should really have a list of these places that don;t want us to deal with them.

I had mine right at 3:00 obviously I had to throw the ball more away from my body but I was still throwing decent. It's also good that I got my first encounter out of the way also.

at least the guy was decent about it all. he didn't freak out on you, he let you finish your drinks, and he refunded your money. it's their right to ask you to leave, and he exercised that right, politely. i'd say it was actually a decent encounter.

Please contact ImmenentDanger or MJFletcher for updates/additions. Note that they will likely want the person reporting to try to contact the manager again, and pursue the matter up the chain of command at the business to confirm that A) This is really the official policy of the business and B) There is no chance of getting it changed

    Which brings me to

Please contact the manager, and ask for his/her superiors contact information. Follow this as far up the chain as possible to confirm A and B from above.

It sounds like the manager handled the situation in a very reasonable manner, even letting you stay to finish your beer. That's more than most would do in his place. Too bad you can't carry there, though. You'll have to try to find another place to bowl, or not carry while you bowl.
I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy. Hippie and 3%er.
