    Question Eotech type sites

I have never seen one up close so will someone fill me in on a couple things please. They themselves dont magnify do they? Are they only helpful in a close quaters situation? Please tell me some advantages of having that type of sight. Thank you. das

No, they don't magnify. There is a separate 3x magnifier available.
The sights offer very rapid target acquisition, are quite strong and durable (I mounted one on a Pistol that had broken three previous sights and the Eotech has held up.). As to the range at which they are useful. I use mine on a pistol. The center dot covers one inch at 100 yards; that woulld make it useful for hunting at a much further distance.
They are compact. Easy to use. Brightness of the dot is adjustable over a very wide range.
As to the less expensive clones. They tend to be less weather proof and are not as resistant to recoil. I have one of those on an SKS and so far it has held up - though it has not been shot often - so the jury is out.

Yup, they're not magnified, although you could get a magnifier (3x available, 4x discontinued) to mount behind it.It's got a BIG window, so it's less condusive to tunnel vision, and give you a nice and wide FOV. You can also use your sight even if your eyes aren't perfectly aligned with the sight like you have to with a scope - the reticule of the sight floats around a bit. You can also use the sight even if the window is partially obscured by debris or if it's partially cracked. (see link)

It's a nice sight. But, I still prefer my Aimpoint.. i'm not a big fan of EOTech's auto-shut-off feature, and I love the new Aimpoint's battery life.
