    Default Colt Treated Me Well!

I've had a Colt Defender for about ten years(not sure). It's my everyday carry gun. I shoot it regularly, as I need to know it is reliable. Last weekend at the range, parts fell out. Got the gun home. Took it apart. I need the same parts that are on the current recall. My gun actually does not fall into the serial numbers in the recall. Colt sent them to me free of charge anyway. Colt sent me replacement parts on a nearly ten year old, often shot gun? Yes sir re Bob!....I can't complain about that.
    Thanks Colt,
    Jim

It's great that Colt stood by their product, but what on earth "fell out"? Were you shooting it when this happened?

Did you have your daily carry weapon regularly maintained? Did a gunsmith inspect it and change the springs every 18-24 months??? What exactly fell out?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

On the recoil spring assy, there is a tiny little recoil cap retainer. This retainer failed, allowing the inner recoil spring to release tension. This allowed the recoil spring guide rod to fall out of the front of the gun. The inner recoil spring then jammed the action at half battery. Gun is regularly maintained. I'm just glad this happened at the range.
