Default If you were buying an AR today...what would you choose?

OK so as the title states, i'm thinking of buying an ar. I dont want one that someone did a budget buildup on! I will probably buy brand new but i'm not at all against finding a good deal on a used on. Basically i'm told that the best bang for the buck right now are the stags. I also have seen a nice bushmaster and as with my pistols I am very fond of the Colts. So if you where buying what would you buy new in the 800-1200 range? Or what would you buy used, say, in the 500-800 range?

Well since last I checked Colt 6920's were going for about $1200 I'd say that would be your best bet. Nothing against Stag or RRA but for the money I'd go with Colt every time.

Probably a colt 6920, but my RRA's have all been 110% and i'm a big fan of them

Why do have rock river and bushmaster together?

I'm in the middle of a Stag build right now. It is not by any means a budget build. Using quality parts and making it exactly the way you want it is worth every penny.

Same here! I shoot my RRA Entry Tactical quite a bit, and am very pleased with it all around. I just picked up my first Colt LE6920, And I feel the same way about it also! The Colt was a bit more $ then the RRA. The Colt has the 1 in 7 twist, as where the RRA has the 1 in 9 twist and the two stage trigger. You just can't have to many AR-15's By the way I voted for Colt.

Ditto, I would vote with the Colt but only by a tiny bit over the Rock River.

You can wonder about Rock River or Colt...
You can wonder about Bushmaster or DPMS....
But Colt and Rock River will always be choices ahead of the Bushmaster or DPMS.

But this is just one person's view.

Small corollary there, I would exempt RRA's 2 stage trigger from this, other than that RRA is GTG. If you want a 2 stage trigger I'd go for the Gisselle. I say this only because I know the RRA 2 stage trigger was mentioned earlier and it is not an uncommon upgrade.

whats wrong with RRA 2-stages? They have .gov contracts so obviously some testing has gone into them, and I personally have probably 10k+ with them without a flaw.

    fast too.

They have known wear issues, going to single stage. Plus the disconnector is retained by a secondary pin captive in the trigger adding complexity and additional failure points. They are an excellent trigger, just not one I'd trust my life to.

Having sold a few thousand ARs over the last 18 years my vote would be Stag. Go to any shop that has a decent selection of mil spec ARs on the shelf and compare the forging marks on uppers, lowers, front sights, etc... and you will find that they are all getting their components from the same sources. Colt 6920's are great and I love them, but the Stag model 1 is IMO the same quality rifle, with the only serious difference being the barrels. I think Stag is THE best value of all the mil spec quality ARs on the market right now. For the record I have on my shelves at the shop right now Colts, Stags, Bushmasters, Armalite, Smith and Wesson, and a Rock River(I think). I still push the Stags over all of them.

    Colt = $1200
    Stag Model 1 = $800

$400 difference could put a decent optic on top or a case of ammo.

Like I said its just my opinion so take it for what it's worth.
