Assault weapon laws
I have been told that in the state of pa if you purchase a assault rifle private sale that you have to go through an ffl and get it registered. Can anyone state if this is the truth or not?

When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

Re: Assault weapon laws
I am assuming when you say "assault rifle" you actually are trying to say modern semiautomatic rifle.
If that is the case and you are referring to a semiautomatic rifle then transfer rules for that rifle are no different than those that would apply to a single shot .22.
Remember also that to be a rifle it has to have a barrel length of at least 16" and an overall length of 26 1/2" I think. Stay tuned, I am sure someone more knowledgeable will stop by to quote the exact law.

Re: Assault weapon laws
#1 - there is no such thing as an assault rifle. assault is a verb, not a noun or adjective, although it does find use as a pejorative occasionally.
#2 - there is no registration of firearms in PA, handguns or rifles.
#3 - to buy a handgun, you must go through an FFL. a rifle can be sold from the back of your car, in a parking lot.
#4 - whoever gave you your information is a big dummy.

Re: Assault weapon laws
The pertinent firearm buying and selling process in Pennsylvania is explained quite well here. Notice that the only important distinction of rifles is whether they are short-barreled rifles (less than 16 inches) or long-barreled rifles (16 inches or longer); “assault rifles” are not part of the distinction.
