    Default Duracoat finish

I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with "Duracoat" firearm finishes? I'm thinking about trying it out. Thanks!

Yep.. There are a few of us here with experience with it.

I've found it to be a good product. Reasonably durable if allowed to cure properly, providing for good protection too. Prep work is critical for best results. Strip the gun completely and thoroughly clean and degrease it before applying the finish. That also means not handling it with bare hands after its been cleaned.

Before anything , break the gun down and clean it with Brake Kleen. Use the entire can then dont not handle it. Dont do more than 3-4 coats , bake between each coat at the lowest setting of your stove.

Ive done 3 guns and 2 flashlights and they have all been great.

Thanks Guys! I'm having my Bulgarian AK done with Duracoat in Flat black...no fancy camo. I decided to pay a pro 145.00 to do it for me.It's a great gun but the factory finish tends to flake off.

I have had great success on plastics but not on metal...even with good prep. I have tried duracoat and durabake enamel on magazines and a glock and it chips at every contact point.

did you bake it in between each coat for 15-20 minutes? Ive never had anything chip even with alot of use.

Yes, I tried doing that, and at the reccomendation of the company, not doing it, and Durabake. Nothing really worked on metal.
