Default Glock 17 vs Glock 19 who wins? Or maybe another model?

I like both of these pistols but, one of them has something over the other and I'm asking a general question to see what you guy's thoughts and opinions are on these Glocks. I dont own a Glock but, if I did it would be one of these two I imagine.

Are these two Glock models the ones i should be looking at for my first Glock or should it be another model? Someone once told me that all Glocks feel the same and they never really change is that true? I know there's alot of GLOCK HEADS out there with knowledge on these pistols, so educate ya boy!!!

If you put in a lot of range time, you will appreciate the G17 a little more, as it has a longer slide. If this will be your carry weapon, I would recommend the G19, as it is more compact. A 9mm pistol doesn't get much better than one of these two.

I carry the Glock 17. I didn't like the way the 19 felt in my hands, but I have never shot it. I like knowing I have a bit bigger of a frame and grip. I think it feels nice, but I can't give the other side.

    i vote for the 17.

the only two reasons, imho, to go with a 19 over a 17 are:

    1. you have issues concealing the 17.

    2. the 19 naturally fits your hand much better than the 17.

other than that, the 17 is superior (longer sight radius, longer barrel, higher capacity, etc. etc.)

personally, i do not have any issues with concealing the 17 and the 17 fits my hands just fine, so. however, many people seem to prefer the 19 for concealed carry (though i do often wonder how many of them have actually tried concealing a 17...i think many just assume they can't).

regarding your second question, imho, the 17 followed by the 19 are the two "best" glocks. the 17 has been around the longest and is probably the most prolific glock ever. it has the longest, deepest track record of reliability. the 17 was the original glock design. all other glocks are compromises of that design. the 19, however, is very, very close to being a 17 in that regard. it is still 9mm and is very close to the same size.

I would go with a Glock 22 40 SW. You can get a 9mm conversion bbl or drop in a Glock .357 Sig bbl. Three guns in one for a few bucks more. If money is a major consideration, then the G 17, hands down.

    The answer is YES.

IOW - buy one (or more) of each.

My vote::: 19. You can use the 17's mags and have the capacity- get a mag spacer to fill the gap. I think it would be slightly easier to conceal given it's somewhat smaller dimensions. Both will serve you well, just be honest with yourself with what you want to do with it.

Right next to it in the case should be a G23......nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

it won't be easier to conceal if you put a 17 mag in it.

the key factor when it comes to concealability is the length of the grip (particularly the backstrap). putting a 17 mag in a 19 makes the grip just as long as a 17 and negates the 19's concealability advantage.

Agreed. I thought he might like it for the range or home defense. Didn't know if round count is important to him deciding between the two.
