I would suggest a good all-purpose dry chemical ABC extinguisher from one of the well know names, Kidde, Ansul, Badger etc. I would suggest the units you select be rated at least 2A 10BC. While bigger could be better, make sure which every units you get can be handled by all the responsible parties in your home.

While you might be able to handle a 20 pound dry chemical extinquisher, you wife might not. So what good is it if it can't be used? Also, consider where fires might start and where it would make sense to locate your extinguishers. As an example having it right next to the heater might not be the best place if the heater happens to catch fire.
