    Default Help ID 1911 parts

    Hello all,

My grandfather passed and i got to go through his firearms stuff (he was a gunsmith).

I found these and would like to know if the are 1911 (NOT 1911A1) front sights.

Any idea if they are, in fact, 1911 front sight and what would a fair market value for them? I have 15.

Pap also had a few 1911 hammers, slide locks, misc parts. All 1911 from what I can tell.

110 times out of 100, if someone wants to replace their 1911 front sight, they will dovetail cut the slide.

those will fetch $3-5 each tops

Those are 1911, good old government model sights. They are staked in (you remove the old one with a file, or a dremel tool, and put the new one in and stake it down with a special tool that will drive the stake straight down and spread it out). These sights are very low (easy to holster and unholster without catching on anything. I know my old eyes can't do very good sighting with those. They are probably are worth a couple bucks each. Check the Brownells or MidwayUSA catalog to see what they are selling for. Best bet would be to sell them on GunBroker.
