    Default Finally picked up my 1911 Micro Compact!

    We finally got my Springfield 1911 Micro Compact .45ACP picked up off of Layaway at Sporting Goods Discounters (Good folks!) last night. Petra and I each fired off a shot in the dark last night at the pile 'o shingles on our property just to function test. Seems nice - there will be range time this weekend to fully assess the new toy.

    Now I need to know where to get mags for it - should use the same as the Officer's model 1911's IIRC. I also need recommendations for better sights and a smith that can install them in the Johnstown/Somerset area. I'm thinking either night sights or fiber optic stuff like Lycanthrope and BearTitan run ... this will be my carry gun.

    I guess this means the Taurus M85 will soon be Petra's carry gun (she has to apply for her LTCF first).

    I think I'm going to pick up a decent holster (maybe a Galco paddle like I have for the M85) and a few mags first, then when I've got some spare funds have some Novak Night Sights installed.

    Speaking of mags, where's a good place to order from and what brands function the best without hitting the wallet too hard?

    I haven't seen the EMP yet other than magazine photos so I'm not real sure how the Micro Compact compares.



    Petra and I are taking the Springfield to the range Sunday to run it through the paces. I will have it at the September Group Shoot (#7) ... so y'all can check it out then. I'll have to make sure and get some WWB before the shoot so I don't run out of ammo.

    Most people either lean toward Wilson Combat mags or Chip McCormick mags. My guns prefer the McCormicks, but you never know. Mec Gar's can also do well in some guns.

    Note: With alloy frame (non steel) framed guns you need a plastic follower in the mags. The metal ones will peen the frame some.
