    Default Reloading for Beretta 96

Does the Beretta 96 (40 S&W) have enough chamber support for reloaded ammo? I will be loading 165g plated bullets at starting load for jacketed bullets. I noticed that there is a small cut away in the feed ramp area. Just thought it's better to ask first.

The B96 in 40 S&W can handle factory loads, and your proposed starting load for a plated bullet will likely not generate as high a pressure as a factory standard load let alone a +P.

My advice? Load five or 10 and try them. With loads too weak, the slide may fail to cycle its entire travel length.

I’ve been loading for a Beretta 96 for some time with no problems. Some of my brass must have been reloaded at least 20 times with no signs of problems. The 96 chamber is not fully supported but neither are most others. It does have more support than the Glock’s chamber. Just keep an eye on your brass for a noticeable bulge at the base where the feed ramp goes into the chamber. If it’s bulged your reloads are too hot for the 96. The 96 cycles easy so you should be able to find a good load.

Thanks. I just needed a little reassurance. I plan to start at or slightly below starting load for jacketed bullets, check slide function, ejection, stove pipes, etc. and gradually increase charge if needed for proper function. I will keep an eye on the brass, looking for bulge or “guppy mouth”.
