    Default Question Concerning Air Travel

It's 5 in the morning so I'm going to keep this short.

I live right next to the NY state border. The closest and most convenient airport from me is in New York. Say I want to travel to Florida from the NY airport and want to take my firearm. Can I transport my gun to the airport per the interstate FOPA laws and declare it there without having to worry about sitting in a New York jail for a few years?

This is completely hypothetical. I'm only 20, and just running all the situations through my head.

Theoretically, yes. That's what FOPA is for. Practically, it's a crap shoot. I remember the case of a nurse from either Ohio or Indiana who was traveling to NH, via an airport in upstate NY. When she went to return home, her declared pistol was confiscated in the NY airport, and she was arrested. Never found out the disposition of that case...

I've read other stories from people who claim that the officers are instructed to arrest anyone in possession of a handgun without a NY pistol license, regardless of FOPA... and let the courts sort it out.
