Admittedly when I was looking to buy my first semi-auto handgun I passed on the Sigma because of negative reviews that I read online. I ended up spending a little bit more and bought myself an XD-9. A couple months after I bought the XD I was able to try out my friends Sigma at the range. I won't say I was disappointed I spent the extra on the XD because the XD is just a flat out nicer gun than the Sigma IMHO. But thats not to say that the Sigma was a bad pistol. It functioned flawlessly for me as I put about 150 rounds through it. Once I got better at staging the trigger the I became nearly as accurate with the Sigma as I was with my XD. If I could do it all over again I would still get the XD, but having now shot the Sigma I have more respect for it than I did at the time I purchased my XD.

I have only shot one in .40.

It was a duty weapon of a retired Police chief. I don't know what model or age of the weapon.

We traded my Glock for his Sigma.

The gun felt pretty good in my hand but failed to fire every other round of aluminum cased blazer 180's.

I picked up all the unfired rounds ( they all had light primer strikes), loaded them into my mag and they all fired.

This was my first and only experience. A few instructors refer to them negatively from witnessing numerous failures of the pistols in high round count classes.

I doubt I would purchase one.

Perhaps this was bad luck, weak springs or a poorly maintained pistol but it left me with a bad impression.

If it works for you and you're happy with it then that's what's important.

Thats really odd i just went to the range today and put 150 Blazer 180 gr aluminum cased rounds down the pipe without any ftf or jams. I only had the sigma for a few months(since oct) purchased new at cabelas for only 329$ and now have about 1000 rounds down the pipe 800 of them being aluminum cased. And not one jam or ftf yet works flawlessly. And very accurate as well. I allmost enjoy shootin it more then my marlin (almost lol)

Obviously, this is only speculation but this seems consistant with reports of what some experienced when they changed the firing pin spring to a lighter one made by Wolf. The idea of the lighter spring was to help lighten the trigger pull but a lighter strike was a side effect.

Again, I have no facts on whether this is what happened in this instance but it is possible. I have never read of a Sigma reporting issues with FTE or FTF. The only complaint I have ever heard was from girly men who couldn't pull a trigger.

..haha j/k on that, I understand the desire for a lighter pull.

As a follow-up, here is the spring I was talking about: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...campaign=10636

    Note the disclaimer: Important:

•Test fire the handgun. The Wolff striker spring is lighter than stock, and some ammunition may not function, specifically if the ammunition has hard primers.

Actually, it's not odd at all.
Many firearms will not digest certain brands of ammunition or bullet configurations such as hollow points.

The problems i encountered with that one specific pistol could very easily have been attributed to the reasons I gave. This gunowner may NEVER have changed a spring or detail stripped his duty pistol. Who knows. I just know it was problematic for me.

All firearms can fail for any # of reasons.

One of my Glock 23's was an E series pistol which had issues with rear rail breakage. Sure enough, I had a rear rail break during a 3 day 700 to 800 round with little maintenance. I was impressed by the fact that even with this failure, the gun ran well and completed the entire class. This pistol has well over 10K rounds through it and the other G23 has 4 to 5 K through it.
Perhaps if I had owned a Sigma and ran it through these classes, I would be praising that pistol as well.

As I stated, if the pistol works to your expectations, be happy with it, run it hard to prove it as a carry piece.

The OP listed his reasons to like the pistol of his choice. All good reasons.

Maybe the Kimber CDP would be a letdown .

Thumbs up Re: Why I like my sigma

why i like my sigma too....my friend randy had to have a glock 19, we went to the range and i took my sigma he took his 19, after shooting some rounds we swaped guns and there was very little differance just a little tougher and longer trigger pull on the SW,even he said for half the price there was very little differance,ok now here is why i realy like my sigma,me and another friend went to the range with our pistols my sigma and jeff has a ruger p95 another much more expensive 9mm then the sigma, once again we swapped guns,i aim down range, take off the safety, put my finger on the trigger of the p95 and BANG it goes off with so little effort it was scary,i was hardly aimed at the target,it made me realize how much i like the trigger safety of the sigma, maybe if i was in a shooting compititions or an LE officer maybe, but for home/self defence the sigma trigger is for me i did not like the soft trigger of the ruger at all,but i guess to each his own. this is just my take on the SW9ve sigma!

It won't be a letdown. Just playin .

Run that Sigma or if you get that Kimber. Run them a bunch with different ammo.
See if any type is prone to failure.

Good luck on getting the Kimber. Good luck with your Sigma.

I also like my Sigma. Very much so. Picked up a barely used 9VE on Black Friday. Have put a couple hundred rounds through it with no problems at all.
Also had a .40 in '94. Part of the first run. Never any problems with that one, either. Feels great, points great, realiable (so far), conceals better than my Ruger.....................Win.
