Advice on making a tactical stock from scratch?
I'm in the process of making a wooden stock out of a chunk of popular for my 22lr. I already made one for a .22mag but it looks like a blocky piece of crap. This time I want to put some time in and make it look good. (first picture is the one I made, second is what I want it to look like.)
I only have access to basic tools like a chop saw, drill press, table saw, sanders, router, and some hand tools. I'm having trouble thinging of an adjustable cheek piece design. I'd rather not buy one but it may come down to that.. I'd also like to install some sore of homemade monopod. I already have the rough design cut out and I'm currently routing the holes and channels.

You got your bi-pod on backwards on that homemade stock... BTW, I like that piece you made. With some refinement you could round off some edges and make a quite an exceptional piece.

Re: Advice on making a tactical stock from scratch?
a good start.
in the "old days" good stockmakers would make a "fitting stock" of poplar or fir for the customer to try out before cutting into a good piece of walnut, especially with trap guns.

knight, the legs do go forward, correct? xP
That's interesting...I bet that took some work. That stuff is expensive though so it doesn't surprise me that they did that. In fact, I ended up drilling the thumb hole 2 inches further back and the channels were already routed, so I'm screwed. Good thing this hunk only cost me like 20 bucks. xP I might be able to cut the excess out but it wont be as strong then. What to do what to do... :K

No useful advice, sorry. But I think what you've done so far is cool.

Nope, I had it correct. Both rifles on this pick have it mounted correctly, look at the spring position.

Yeah, I see what you mean; it does look off since the picture wasn't level. I'll upload pics of my new stock soon, it's coming along well (even after my dreadful mistake)
