Off-Duty Officer Killed In Kelly Drive Crash
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

An off-duty Philadelphia Police officer died following a crash on Kelly Drive Wednesday evening.

Eyewitness News has learned an off-duty Philadelphia Police officer was killed in a car crash Wednesday evening.

The incident happened on Kelly Drive near Brewery Hill Drive in the city's Fairmount section.

Chopper 3 was over the scene near the Schuylkill River where it appeared a red truck crashed into the base of an embankment below Girard Avenue.

The unidentified officer was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m.

Investigators told Eyewitness News that the 53-year-old Highway Patrol Officer had served 20 years on the force.

The exact details surrounding the incident were not immediately available. The incident remains under police investigation.

I just heard on the radio, that the officer was also shot. They were still not sure as to what killed him, the car crash, or the gun-shot.
They also mentioned he was being investigated by internal affairs for quite a while.

WTF???? was he "cleaning his gun" while driving?

That's in really bad taste. Like them or not, cops have a shitty, thankless job. Sure there are bad ones that abuse their authority, but there are more than enough good ones to make up for them.
