anyone ever done the research to find out how many permits one would have to have a permit honored by all states that allow ccw?

Since Oregon only issues to residents of bordering states for nonresident carry in Oregon and depending on your starting point and route, you can do it with 1 license from the east coast to Washington State only. ..A Utah license. With just that UT, or any other combination of licenses, as a PA resident Washington State is the only west coast state you could make it to legally.

That depends on how you go.

The most direct route takes you through IL, which is a no-carry state. But you can get around it without too much of a detour, or just rely on the Federal law that permits you to drive through any state, assuming you don't stop, and you unload and store the weapon properly, and most important, hope you don't run into any LEO on the way.

At least according to the info on handgunlaw.us, a Florida or Utah permit will get you all the way if you avoid KS, IL, and MD, and stick to AZ, NM, TX, OK, AR, TN, KY, OH, and WV.

See this map of all states in which the Utah permit is honored.

And this one shows states that honor Florida:

    Interesting question.

    Using info from handgunlaw.us site

Let's assume that you're a PA resident that has taken a basic firearms safety course (such as NRA basic pistol) and you do not have any land, business, or influential connections in any other state.

That will eliminate 10 states from the list even possible to get:
    IL, WI,
    OR, CA, IA, SC,
    HI, MD, NJ, NY.

    Here's the forty left:
    VT, no license required

PA LTCF you get PA plus 24 reciprocal states; cost $26 or more depending on county

UT CFP gets you 8 more states not covered by PA (AL, DE, MN, MS, NE, NM, OH, WA); cost $65.25 plus Utah specific course ($50+)

KS no non-resident possible but with reciprocity from NV; costs see below

Now you need to get individual states not covered by reciprocity
    CT $140
    RI $40
    ME $60
    MA $100
NV $100; but you have to take the firearms course in NV

Now if my math and research is correct it is $531.25 in license fees plus the cost of the Utah and Nevada courses.

[I tried to take the least expensive route to accomplish BTW. For instance by getting UT instead of FL you get MN and WA which both MN and WA would require you to get their individual licenses in person. Definitely easier and cheaper to get UT. You can get KS with FL reciprocity ($117) if you don't want to undergo the NV travel costs, so then 39 states (without NV) is $548.25]

Most licenses are good for 4-7 years except Massachusetts which is only good for one. Some licenses are cheaper at renewal though.

Let us know when you get them all.

Get yourself trained and certified as a Reserve Police Officer and you can carry in all 50 states.

The list of options is short if your from PA, but if you live in another state it's a great option. Plus, it's free...

I'm in the process of moving out west. Several of the folks i work with are Phoenix Reserve police. Time commitment isn't any different than being a Volunteer Firefighter (19 weeks of evening and weekend training then 24 hours a month), but they can carry in Hawaii and NYC...

    Quick problem with this:

    From LEOSA,

Reserve police are often volunteers and not employees... Just saying...

It's a CCW trip planner. I have yet to use it myself, but I have it bookmarked. Someone recommended it to me a while ago.
