No Saiga in 7.62x54r....per RAA
Emailed RAA about if/when they are getting the rumored Saiga in 7.62x54...This was his reply:
Hi Tim,
There is not any indication that the factory is going to make us the 7.62X54r. We have asked for it in the past and will continue, but to date there is not one in the works.

Why would the Russians design a Saiga in x54r when they have the TIGIR series?
Also the Saiga 100 series rifles came in 30-06 so just a guess on my part but they would use that platform and it wouldn't sell as well here because of the different styling / lack of aftermarket parts.
Course if they did one up the same way as most of the .308s then they would have something. The resident Saiga snob

Re: No Saiga in 7.62x54r....per RAA
I sent the email and posted this thread due to the large amount of rumors going around on the net about Saiga making a 54r version...and the Saiga can be had for about $350 which is better then any other brand new, reliable, AK platform that is manufactured in the IZHMASH factory.
Also, if RAA has, is, and will continue to ask the factory for it, then it is what the customer wants. Business is about giving the customer what they want so you can (in turn) make a profit. Obviously for RAA to ask about it there is a demand for it.
Being able to shoot the 54r out of a reliable semi-auto rifle that won't break the bank and can provide large volumes of fire without the weak barrel becoming an issue is a GREAT IDEA TO ME...and apparently to many others as well.
The ammo is dirt cheap, (much cheaper then 30-06 and 308) so you could empty the magazines all day long and not wish you hadn't emptied your wallet.

They used to import them, thank Clinton. While not an AK "style" I've been told they are still quite reliable. I'm not trying to get into a pissing match here I'm just trying to say that they already have a gun like that and we can't have it.The resident Saiga snob

Re: No Saiga in 7.62x54r....per RAA
Is that a PSL that they cut the barrel down and changed the furniture?? I have been thinking about doing that to help with the issue of the barrel whip as it heats up...but I wasn't sure if it would help that much since I hear the barrels are just thin and weaker in general.
Or...is it really an AK in x54r??? Either way I am jelous!
20 rd mag huh.....hhhmmmmmm
