Default Transfering ownership when the owner lives in another state?

So, I'm buying a handgun from a friend of mine who just moved out of Pennsylvania. What process do I have to go through in order to do this right? Thanks in advance.

The transfer must be completed at an FFL in the recipient's home state - in your case, PA.

He can either have an FFL near him ship it to the FFL of your choice, or he can simply ship it to your FFL himself, using UPS or FedEx. If he decides to ship himself, it would be a good idea to contact your FFL and confirm that he accepts shipments from non-FFLs (not everyone does).

Or he could deliver it to the Pa. FFL himself if he comes back to visit

Thanks for the responses. The gun us actually here in PA though he himself is not. I'm assuming he's the only one who can deliver it to the FFL, correct? Can I just pick up the gun and fill out some sort of forms after the fact or no?
