    Default Serpa holster broke

I had difficulty deciding if I should put this in tactics, training. I consider it a tactic training issue.
I had my serpa holster with paddle configuration. I went to sit in a chair and holster caught arm rest. Where the paddle portion comes up and wraps over belt, it snapped. On the back side, front side still attached to outer portion that screws into holster. I just have a concern this may be a weakness and a possible way for this holster to be defeated.

Thanks for the info. I would talk with the serpa people. It may just maybe a material defect.

that sucks! i've been using SERPAs for awhile now; i've always been mindful that this was a possibility, more so than a ND while holstering/unholstering a loaded gun. just remember that it's plastic, not leather, and plastic will break with enough tension. plus, the area where it attaches is a weak point. that's just a matter of physics and engineering limitations.

i'd contact Blackhawk, though, and let them know; you might have gotten one out of a bad batch. they might even take care of you, in the process.

Might even get a free replacement part.

The replacement isn't a concern. Possibility of a retention failure is!

    Leather FTW!

I have a Serpa OWB, and a Don Hume leather OWB. Since acquiring the Don Hume, I have tried to go back to the Serpa any number of times, I just can't do it.

At the range, or in a competition where access and draw is important (not to mention 1-handed re-holster) I can see the advantage of the Serpa. For day-to-day carry I just prefer the Don Hume.

Still, I'm both surprised and a little disappointed to hear of the failure. I'm curious to hear about BlackHawk's reaction.

I haven't used my serpa since that review. I now carry in Don Hume J.I.T. Serpa just sits around.

    Define "unquestionable retention".
