Default Rented a Sig P229.. Fell in love?

I've been in Florida for the past couple days with family, and as is the new family tradition, we went to one of the local ranges in Ft. Myers, FL (Fowler Firearms, great place if you are ever in the area and want to go shooting at an indoor range). I chose not to bring my gun down here, which I somewhat regret, but it gave me the opportunity to rent a Sig P229 (.40S&W) at the range.

We rented three guns (Sig P229, Beretta 92, and Sig Mosquito). I started the day shooting the P229, and I sent my target out to about 7 yards. My first five shots (we were doing 5 and 10 round magazines to keep everyone rotating quickly on the guns) were all dead center on target, all touching, in a 1 inch group. Aside from my very vain side enjoying my sisters friends positive comments ("hooooly crap" "whoa Nina your brother could kill someone!") I instantly fell in love with the in hand feel, recoil feel, and accuracy of the Sig.

The rest of my shots weren't quite as good as I kept rotating between the different guns, but I still can't believe how accurate this gun is. I'll upload some picture of targets and range day pics (my sister's friend brought her camera, and the range officer was cool with us snapping pics at the range).

I don't have an immense knowledge of firearms like some of the members here, but I think I can say authoritatively that the Sig P229 (.40S&W) is an amazing feat of engineering and a duly impressive firearm.

Careful, once you buy a sig you're gonna want another and another and...well you get the picture

    I have a 229 and I love it.

Ditto, I have one and love it. Mine has SS frame, looking to get one with aluminum frame next to make it a little lighter. Even with the long travel trigger on mine it is one of the easiest guns Ive ever had to rapid fire and keep groups tight.

i own 5 sigs and they all shoot great. my 229 Secret Service is outstanding, its a one of a kind gun, its in 357 sig as the secret service guns are but i also have the .40 barrel as well.

You couldnt get a better firearm if you get a sig

My first pistol was a 228. Then I bought a 220. Excellent firearms. I trust my life to them. They both have run without a hitch for the past twenty years and will continue to do so.

Ah yes love at first Sig. Got a P239 and had to have a P229 Elite. I'm eyeing a P220 or P226 next.

After reading all the good things Sig I was very suprised to find a slightly used Sig Pro 2022 9mm hiding on a bottom shelf at my LGD for $330. Figuring I could never afford a new sig so I put it on layaway. Last Friday i picked it up and was suprised to find it came with 3mags in the box. Can't wait to get it to the range and try it out.

I bought my Sig p229 used off of a guy at work about 3 years ago. It is 2 tone, polymer grips with a stainless slide, night sights .40 barrell. I'm thinking about buying the 357 barrell for it, just for shits and giggles. Before I bought this, I thought I wanted a Glock, my friend told me he had this for sale, just slightly used...I couldn't tell it had ever been fired, it's a beauty, I couldn't pass on the price he gave me and I'd reccomend it to anyone.

Thumbs down Re: Rented a Sig P229.. Fell in love?

I had a Sig P229 in .357 Sig once, felt great in my hand and shot well for a while. After about 500 rounds the firing pin placement pin broke in half and got jammed in the slide. The hammer spring weakened so much that it didn't allow the hammer to strike the firing pin hard enough. Sig Sauer sent me replacement parts but the gun is hard to completely disassemble and reassemble. I know Glocks and 1911s like the back of my hand but that Sig seemed to be complicated on purpose. I sold it, I'll never dabble in the "black" guns again (maybe a Glock), I'll stick to my 1911s.
