Magnum Research "Baby" Desert Eagle .45 ACP
Does anyone own and shoot one of these? I'm seriously thinking of getting one. I like the fact it's made from all steel. It's cost is comparable to the Ruger series of .45 ACP autos, but this one holds 10 rounds. I have a Glock 21 but Melanie really likes it so I was thinking of getting this for myself. I have 2 Magnum Research BFR Revolvers and really like the workmanship of both of them. The Rugers have Aluminum frames and I like steel in guns. I just wondered if anyone here has one, and what you thought of it? Any problems? Bill T.

Re: Magnum Research "Baby" Desert Eagle .45 ACP
I owned a full sized 9MM, and I never had a problem with it (did sell it off, and now my 'heavy' range 9MM shooter is a Sig P226ST).
Make sure that you don't mind having the safety, and don't mind the position of it on the slide. I actually liked having the safety/decocker, but with the thinner slide it sometimes could be tough to grab on and rack. I think that's about the only shortcoming I can think of right now. Well, the sucker is heavy, but that would only be bad if you planned to carry it.

Thanks for the quick reply! The weight doesn't bother me in the least. I think the world has become obsessed with light, (i.e. plastic and Aluminum), firearms. I'm going to order it with a couple of extra mags. Bill T.

Is the Baby Eagle gas-operated like the original/big Desert Eagle?

Re: Magnum Research "Baby" Desert Eagle .45 ACP
a baby eagle is basically a CZ75 design, aka EAA-Witness, aka Tanfolio CZ copy, eith styling concepts to give it the DE look.
The EAA Witness is a better gun overall than the baby Eagle."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Looking at both the EAA Witness and the "Baby" Desert Eagle shows the frame supports the slide for it's entire length on the Desert Eagle out to the muzzle. This could account for the extra half a pound in weight. This is a pretty decent article on the "Baby" Desert Eagle. Bill T.

FWIW, my experience has been the opposite. The CZ is the best of the Tangfolio-based guns (out of those three anyway), the Eagle is second, the Witness is third. Though I prefer the Jericho (the other version of the Baby Eagle, with a frame mounted safety instead of the slide mounted decocker/safety).

Re: Magnum Research "Baby" Desert Eagle .45 ACP
I just ordered it from Davidsons on-line. If they ship it out today, I should get it tommorrow. I ordered a couple extra magazines as well. I like buying from Davidsons because every gun they sell comes with a lifetime free replacement warranty. Much like a Craftsman tool. I have already used the guarantee on a Ruger .22 Mark II Pistol I bought from them. I took it to the range and shot it, and around round 80 or so it broke. (The trigger wouldn't reset.) I returned it to my local dealer and I had a brand new gun in my hands the very next day! Pretty hard to beat. I'm anxious to put some lead downrange with it. I won't get a chance to shoot it until Monday. Bill T.
