Default Interested in a Lever action 22

I recently got a Mossberg 500 and have loved taking it to the range with the slug barrel (adding a knoxx spec ops stock was a great investment). However the ammo cost is adding up and I also want to take my fiance who is only 5'2" shooting for her first time. That is why I would like to get a .22 just for plinking at the range. I might add a scope at some point but for the time being I am trying to keep my costs down. My first choice is lever action but I have seen mixed things on the cost, are there any out there that can be had for under $200? If not what could I expect to pay?

I was looking for a .22 lever gun for the same reason. Nothing out there that I found for under $200 unless you find a used rifle.

This is what I was going to get after some research...(I ended up getting a very used .357 mag lever gun instead - for less than a new .22)

    Henry model H001

Here's one I found real quick.

Thanks for the help, and good luck with the job hunt. My room mate has been unemployed for about 2 months, sorry to hear you got it to.

Just this week someone posted a Henry H001 in the PAFOA classifieds for $200.

ETA: woops - that sold in less than a day.

I bought my son a new one right before Christmas from Wolf's in Manheim for 249.00 TOTAL!! out the door. Brand new in the box!

I love it, shoots great out of the box and he loves it too. Its easy for him to load and cycle the lever.

    Sorry, its a Henry H001

As much as I love my Marlin Mod 39 (and I do). My brother has a Henry lever action that is a very nice gun and significantly less expensive. Depending on what you can find used a Henry might or might not be a better deal. The Marlin 39 is built to last (mine is nearly 50 and I've killed everything from squirrels to deer with it). However, were I on a budget and couldn't find a good used Marlin I'd pop for a Henry they are excellent value for dollar.

Try Dick's. Every year for the last 3 years they have put the Henry's on Black Friday sale for $200.00. Ask the "gun mgr" if they may still be willing to sell them for at least close to that.

My wife's first gun was a Henry H001. It's a great little rifle. She got hers from Wally World for $229. That was three or four years ago, though.

I'll recommend the Henry, too. Nice little gun for not so much $.

I also have a Henry with the octagon barrel. I wanted something for coon hunting so I picked one up. Straight out of the box the best gun Ive ever owned aside from putting the large loop lever on it. IMO its about as accurate as you can get with an open sight gun. Now you said you want to put a scope on it; thats fine, but try it with open sights its simply amazing.
