ruger gp100 help
im trying to replace my factory front sight with something more visable.
heres the problem,my gp100 is a 3" 357.the front sight is pinned not the popular dove tail. rear sight is the fixed grove type.
i just recived and returned the ruger shop recomended hiviz #http://shopruger.com/Hi-Viz-DA-Front...uctinfo/12012/
this sights half moon wouldnt fit, even if it were ground down to equal the slot it wouldnt have any meat to drill the pinning hole.
any recommendations would be helpfull please no lasers.

Re: ruger gp100 help
I replaced the sights on my GP100 with Meprolight night sights. [For some strange reason, Trijicons for that gun cost more than the gun.] I did it myself, and I'm certainly no gunsmith. They dropped right in. I bought them from www.officerstore.com.

Re: ruger gp100 help
THe sight that Ruger sent you is a nice one , i would just file it to fit the slot and install it with a dab of JB Weld and forget about the pin, the jb weld will outlast you. You can do it in half an hour. And if you change your mind down the road and want to install something else its easy to remove.

Re: ruger gp100 help
Im sure you are set in your intentions but I would recommend keeping the factory sights. I replaced mine with the fire sight and within a month the insert fell out and was not to be found. I dont know about you but I think the gun looks alot better with a stock sight too.

Re: ruger gp100 help
If you want something brighter you can do several things. You can paint the sight ramp (just make sure you degrease completely so the paint will stick good), or you can put an insert in (Brownells and MidwayUSA sell do it yourself insert kits). You can also take it to a gunsmith and have him drill a small indentation at the tip of the ramp and put a drop of luminescent paint in it.

Re: ruger gp100 help
I just made a trade for a Ruger and was wondering how these guns hold up. Anyone out there that would like to share some info about them?

Re: ruger gp100 help
First to original poster I think the fixed sight, and adjustable sight rugers need a different front blade. You should be able to find the sight you need by googling, and searching for a fixed sight front blade. Now to krssteel the rugers are great revolvers, and are built like tanks, I have a gp100 stainless 6 inch, and its way beefier than my model 66 k frame S&W, and the equal of my 586
L frame.
