Michigan Armament 45ACP Custom?
Anyone know anything about Michigan Armament? I aquired this 45 recently, and am trying to get more info about them. It reads Michigan Armament Custom Combat on the slide.
I have found only a few things about the company. So I am told: They were the first from the factory custom builders for 1911's as well as some others. They built them one at a time as per customers preferences. Factory match trigger, Hammer, etc.....The company was formed in or around 1965 and moved to California in the 80's. The were appearantly bought by Kimber in 1982. Not sure if the info I have is correct, and would love some feedback.
This one is very heavy, but really accurate. It also has a low serial number 0037. Seems to have many match parts, and a Bomar Rail Sight. Any clue what it is worth...?

They were built on Essex frames and slides. So the value is toward the lower end of 1911's. The Bo-Mar sight may be worth almost as much as the gun these days. The sight was added after the gun was sold originally.

Heya,
Joined this forum to post this!
Here's a thread that I contributed to back in 2003 (posting #4).

There's a wee bit of information there that may be of use -I think I've still got a couple of issues of 'Combat Handguns' from 1981-82 with some information on Michigan Armament. I'll pick them up when I'm at my parents' house again and scan them fro you.
They weren't as bad as folks think - Jim Clark used to build the odd bullseye gun using Essex frames.
Cheers, Nigel

Re: Michigan Armament 45ACP Custom?
Thanks so much for the info.... I have to tell you that I have taken the pistol to a couple local Gunsmiths, and they were very impressed. I can tell you the gun is heavy and extremly accurate. My friends at the range have fired it, and are really envious. I have been shooting very tight pattern at 25 yards. Pretty nice at 50 yards. I know it sounds crazy, but I shot it at 100 yards ( have a witness ). It was about a 16- 18" drop at 100 yards. My Para totally missed the paper with the same hand-loads. I really love this gun.....
