Just spotted a Bald Eagle
I was on my way home from the bagel shop in brodheadsville a few minutes ago, coming along 115 north. As I was passing the fish and pay lake in Gilbert I saw a large bird of prey riding the air currents above the lake. I immediately noticed it was ALOT bigger then most hawks, and then realized that's because it was a friggin Bald Eagle!!!!!! White head and white tail, and easily twice the size of most hawks I've seen around the poconos.
Man what a siight, I was half tempted to pull off the road and watch it for a while.
Is there anyone I should notify about this?

Re: Just spotted a Bald Eagle
Must not be a common sight out east? surprising.
One of the coolest things I ever seen was a nesting pair of eagle fishing in the lake. One swooped down and snagged a fish...the next coolest thing was my boys were with me and saw it...my little guy still jabbers about it.
Predatory birds rank up there as one of my favorite animals.
I took these pics a week or so ago.
Spotted Hawk - 1 Starling - 0
Took it out of the bird feeder right outside my kitchen window.

Seeing a Bald Eagle in or around Carbon County isn't that rare. There are a lot of people who go up to Bake Oven Knob and observe these birds. No need to notify anybody. Just watch and enjoy!

Re: Just spotted a Bald Eagle
Nothing better than seeing a bald eagle. Up here in Northcentral PA there are quite a few of them. Just this past fourth of July we saw one kayaking down the Allegheny.

Re: Just spotted a Bald Eagle
you might have a better chance of seeing them around any large body of water; they like fish, and constantly patrol the shores for any that wash up. i used to go fishing in Prompton, and i'd see them all the time there. i've also seen them on RT 611, eating roadkill.
