Obnoxious .50 beowulf !!! but I want it !!!

Ok folks,, I've decided to work towards putting together my next piece of madness. And its the .50 Beowulf by Alexander Arms. I do not have to much experience in this caliber, NONE to be exact! But non the less I've set my mind on getting one of these suckers. Does anyone have one of these pieces of machinery and can they tell me a bit more about them. This gun and Caliber seem like it may possibly go bye-byes. Any info/opinion would be great. I have enough hand guns and plain rifles to last me 10 life times, so this is going to be my next step in going obnoxious with a totally obnoxious gun...... thanks for the input !!!

I know what it means to get "obnoxious" , i have the same problem as you , i have enough Ar's, AK's, Sigs and Glocks to last mutiple lifetimes, so i went "obnoxious" (not to steal your term) and got me a FN 5.7, totally politically incorrect, everybody hates them (usually those who have never shot one or own one).

Now i was toying with the idea of a Beowulf too, theressomething about that 450 grn bullet moving out at 2300fps, would make an ideal, Elk, Moose and Buffalo gun , out west that is.

You should look into the 458 SOCOM for 3 reasons:
1- It's just as powerful
2- It's got better / more affordable ammo and components
AND
3- Since it's .458 it's not likely to be banned.

I looked into it and now I'm lusting after one........

i used to own a sw 500 talk about obnoxious. its cheaper to throw grenades.

I've shot a 50 Beowolf once.

I never want to shoot one again.

It kicks like a rabid mule in heat.

I'd go with a 458 SOCOM if I wanted something in a larger caliber.

I've got one. Lets just say don't expect to see ammo for a decent price anytime soon. I ordered back in june of 09 and still have not gotten any in yet. Try www.50beowulf.com for info. Its without a doubt the worst recoiling gun I have ever shot. I would rather shoot my AR50 all day than 5 rounds from this thing. I've heard that the longer barrel with a brake is more reasonable but still its way overkill for such a light gun.

The ammo is expensive and brass comes from alexander directly for now. Starline is rumored to be putting it on the open market but nothing yet. Lee makes dies but alot of people say they suck and report problems with them. Bullets range from 300g up to 650g depending on the vendor.

You can use standard AR mags with them but some trimming of the feed lips may be needed for dependable feeding.

Alexander was in talks with several vendors to produce ammo in bulk but the only vendor still talking is wolf from what I have read on the forums.

Out to 200yds this thing will demolish anything you point it at. Beyond that you better find something else to reach out and touch with.

Yes the .458 socom is cheaper and shoot flatter to boot, .

The "obnoxious gun" is like the chick on the side , not to be used everyday, only when you feel like something different.

I hear goood things about the 6.5 Grendel, might get an upper for my Ar collection

I have one. Kicks like a 12 gauge. For about 150 yards it pretty much ruins the day of whatever it's aimed at. Kind of like a 45/70 +p

I would suggest some fairly tough optics as well.
