I was informed that if one receives an handgun from a spouse/father/grandfather, that in order to carry it had to be transferred/registered to the new owner.

There is nothing in PA law that requires it, and in fact there's no provision for "registration" under PA law. All you could do would be to fabricate a second "transfer" to put it through an FFL's books, and create a paper trail.

To the extent that police use the PSP Record of Sale Database as a de facto "registry", they are misusing it, and could be held to account in court if they seize guns based on that database.

Think about.. When one lawfully owns a gun, and the transfer was specifically exempted of a paperwork trail, how would a paper'd transfer be required to carry it?

What is the so called "gun show loophole"?
I purchased a handgun privatley from a friend several years ago
and still had to run the NICS. As far as I know, nothing has changed.

That's true. The exceptions are for transfer to a spouse, parent/child or grandparent/grandchild -- and then only if both are PA residents. A friend, or even a sibling, still requires transfer through an FFL. This is a state law; some states allow direct transfers of handguns, as is the case here with long guns.

But what happens if I give a firearm to my uncle who has a license to carry a firearm. Do you need to do the paper work for this?
