Airline Transport Pilots have "federal" carry license?
Title says it all....would it be called that in a manner of speaking?

Re: Airline Transport Pilots have "federal" carry license?
Since they are being trained under the Federal Air Marshals, my guess would be it is a limited use permit. Only on duty or on "federal" air property. (If that's a classification) Can't leave the airport and use the permit in Newark, for instance.
I googled it, but didn't find a reference to what type of permit.

I think armed pilots are appointed as "Special Deputy US Marshals". That is what gives them their carry authority nationwide. Not a carry permit but statutory authority.

Re: Airline Transport Pilots have "federal" carry license?
When I was returning from Kuwait to US from serving in Iraq, we asked the commercial pilot if he'd like to take a picture holding one of our rifles and he replied he didn't have to because he didn't go anywhere without packing a weapon.
When I hit the ground I looked up the authority that allowed pilots to carry weappons and looked at some news articles stating Obama had changed the ruling on it and commercial pilots were no longer allowed to carry weapons. All gave some and some gave all. Come home safe, brave warriors.

"FFDOs are authorized to transport secured firearms in any state for a flight on which they are flying to or from as approved by the Federal Air Marshal Service as necessary for their participation and activities in the program."

Re: Airline Transport Pilots have "federal" carry license?
My cousin flies for a major airline and participates in the program. He is based out of an airport about 400 miles south of Philadelphia. He is allowed to carry on his way to work, as a passenger from Philadelphia to his base airport, while either seated in coach or first class.
Not only are air marshalls on certain flights armed, some pilots on their way to work and seated in the cabin are too.
