I'm getting my first AK-47 later today from a coworker. It is a FEG SA 85M (not sure of what year it is), with a FAB Defense/Mako Group side folding stock, pistol grip and quad rail and a J-Tac 47 muzzle brake.

I will post pictures once I get it. All I plan on doing to it is a MOE RVG (I didn't like the stubby Tapco fore grip he had on it), EOTech HWS and a sling adapter plate so I can mount a Magpul MS3 on it.

I haven't yet fired it. Trying to get time at the range. It's been bitterly cold and ammo isn't as easy to find as it was once. I've got a couple boxes of the steel-case Tula stuff. I have a bunch more of the brass stuff backordered from Cabela's. Not crazy about steel cased ammo. I hope it doesn't hurt it. This is my first semi-auto rifle ever. I've always been more of a handgunner. Trying to learn as much about it before I go to the range.

It is a well-finished rifle. The furniture on it is glass-smooth and glossy.

$1,100. I know that's insane, but I got caught up in the hysteria. A few months ago, I could've got something like it for $650. It is brand-new with two 30-round magazines and is a well-finished rifle if that's any consolation.

EOtech's are good. They are however designed to be the correct height to see the sights on an AR15. Which means the actual optical window is less than the optimal height on an AK. You will need a cheek riser or your head is going to float. Especially if it's mounted high up on the average 'quad rail'.

    Just an FYI.

I have an EOTech 516 on my M4. Having used that for a while, I have decided I'm only going to use EOTechs on firearms I don't need magnification for. And the stock has a cheek riser on it already.

Very nice, and I wouldn't worry about using steel cased ammo that is what these rifles were designed to use. IMO.
