PaRifleman, remind me to drool at you feet when I see you again. Nice Collection. Mine will look like that in about 40 years.

nice collection man, i dig! I see your a fan of finishing the wooden stocks as well. I myself love how dark cherry looks on a ak frame, reminds me of something from siberia(dont ask me why lol).

I personally refinish all my own stocks, and i have to say yours are very well taken care of. +100 cool points for that man.
Im a real big fan of the powers of what a few coats of stain and some high end polyurithane can do.

I should just get over the shyness fear, and post a pic of my ak.

Anway. The new parts are on, and the transformation has begun.

    This is the original

And slowly it turns into the "Black Rifle" that I want it to be.

Hope to have a pitcanny (spelling??) rail and scope by the shoot. Have to wait and see.
i would check out "Jay5oh" ak. If you are looking to put rails on. Id stick with the version he has.
I have the exact same, except in black.
Its light, very sturdy and i notice the ventilation releases heat better than the stock wood, or standard polymer set.
What is also nice is the ability to put a vertical grip on the bottom, which makes a world of difference in shooting comfort plus bad-ass-ery if people tell you, dont try, because it wont work with the large mags, they are wrong, it fits perfectly with room to spare.
So that front stock has got my approval!

Also if you have a muzzle slant on your barrel, replace this with a ak-74 muzzle break(designed for the caliber 7.62x39). It greatlu improve your accuracy and muzzle climb for the added cost of weight.

and if you really want to give it that uber-finish. Check out "duracoat", gives it an oh so great finish. Color i used on mine is "HK Black"

    Enjoy!

Well, thanks for the compliments here and elsewhere, everyone. And the rep points that I just discovered! I'm really not into ostentatious displays but this time I couldn't resist.

Some may be in your collection sooner than you may think, Mtbkski. #1 is about 4-5 years out from college, and #2 trails her by about 3 years. I'm no longer a subject matter resource for communist bloc small arms, so they aren't used any more. They'll likely be sold off (along with the stockpiles of ammunition) to pay for schooling in the next few years.

And, I've had an itch for a repro Ferguson Rifle (details) for some time. That'll shake a few loose in a hurry. [8^)

Thanks, but you give me more credit than what's due. They're all original, just as they came out of the box. The exception is one laminated M38 (not pictured) that shed the shellac coating. I refinished it with polyurethane varnish, I have pictures of it somewhere after it was done.

Here's several of many I did refinish:

Zoli 1863 Remington (above)...it's a crappy picture, as the only camera I had at the time was an old Sony Mavica @ 1.3 MP.

CVA derringer: This one was an old kit gun I did over about ten years ago. I didn't take any "before" pictures, so all pictures were taken when it was done. This was a full restoration, including rebluing the barrel.

Navy Arms 1777 "Charleville" Musket: This was almost a disaster purchase on Gunbroker, as it was pretty beat up and rusty. Someone had previously driven nails into the stock, and had chemically accelerated rust to give it "character". I assume this was a misguided effort at simulating realism for re-enacting. As you can see, it turned out okay.

Note to historians: they're all reproductions that were badly neglected. No original historical artifacts were refinished or modified in any way.

To avoid any further subject drift, the photos are linked to the photo album if you want to see more.

This site rails is next to be ordered. http://www.ultimak.com/m2-b.htm

I don't have a slant barrel. But I still want to put a muzzle brake on the end. Any recommendations?

I'm thinking about buying a S.P.O.T. Scope of of War Wagon to mount on here. Looks like a pretty good deal. Check out - http://www.pafoa.org/forum/optics-46...html#post94004 Anyone have any experiance with this scope.

I really would love to Duracoat it. How hard is it to do for the non-artistically challanged.

I got all my parts and the AK is up to the level I want to take it. Well, unless I win the lottery and then stand by. Thanks to War Wagon and Ultimax for making this all come true.

The S.C.O.P.E on an Ultimax gas tube replacement. I like it a lot.

I will add the Evil Black AR to the Mix. I purchased it this way, so no before and after pics.

I can still use the iron sights, cause there is a hole in the scope mount to look thru and see them.
