There is one of two possibilities here. Either they let it happen or the government is so incapable of doing anything right, they should be replaced.
What bothers me is that there are 7 year olds being harassed by TSA because they share a name with somebody on the no fly list, but this guy is able to get on a plane without a passport with a plane ticket paid for in cash. And the guys dad went to the American embassy in Nigeria to warn the U.S about his radicalized son but he was still able to get on without a problem.
Here is an interview with an eye witness to the passport incident. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAtK7...layer_embeddedIf guns kill people, then pencils misspell words.

Re: U.S. Knew of Airline Terror Plot Before Christmas
Plain and simple we have the same old crap in Washington with these agencies. These agencies act like they are competing with each other and because of that they do everything they can to NOT share information. It's the exact same freaking problem we had before 9/11
Too many agencies, wasting too much money and refusing to work with each other. FBI, CIA, NSA, SS, TSA etc etc .... one giant clusterf*ck

I wouldn't go so far as "just to take away more of our liberties."
However, I do believe some things intentionally slip through the cracks so certain agencies can lobby for more money and personnel.
"See how thinly-spread we are. If only we had the funds and manpower."
Growth of itself is one of the few tasks government can accomplish without screwing up.
