    Default AR Ammo Question

Got a new Colt LE6920 for Christmas and I am wondering what ammo is the most accurate out of the 1/7 twist? Do the heavier bullets work better in that barrel?

    Thanks for any info.

every gun is different as to what ammo they shoot the most accurate with. with that said, yes, the 1/7 will shoot the heavier 62-77grn bullet better than the 55 grn bullets. buy a few different types and grain weights to find the most accurate for your rifle.

renegadephoenix was right on the money with his answer. The faster twist rates will stabilize the heavier (longer) bullets better. A fast twist rate will stabilize a lighter bullet better than a slow twist rate will stabilize a heavier bullet, generally.... but like renegadephoenix said, buy a bunch of different ammo and see what your AR likes best.

    (emphasis mine)

I had to read that twice before . . .

You are right, of course. But for those of us who cannot think complex thoughts before coffee, when you run another one like that out, pop in a disclaimer or a warning or something

My Colt LE6920 shoots Wolf 55 grain and 62 and loves them. I am now doing reloads and it likes those too!

Its NOT the twist rate that dictates accuracy! Yes the faster rate will stabilize the longer 75-80 gr bullets and a 1:9 may not . But and its a big but the faster rate will indeed shoot the shorter lighter bullets(50-60 gr) just as well or better accuracy wise as the longer heavier target bullets. Ask any match shooter how the 52 gr serria MK shoots for him. There are other variables that come into play that dictates what ammo or bullet/ load combo is accurate or not in a given rifle barrel within reason besides the rate of twist.

As for what load is the most accurate in your rifle ? Well thats the fun part you just have to shoot some different flavors to find what it likes best.

    Tim beat me to it.

I shoot 55 grn - 69 grn out of my 1/7 at up to 300 yards (iron sights). As long as I'm doing my job, I experience no noticeable difference in accuracy.
