    Dodge,
The serial number should be found on the left side of the receiver, in the second line of the manufacturer's stampings - right after the address block. It should start with two letters in prefix.

It's not there. All I can find is the following:
    Topper Model 158
    Harrington & Richardson, Inc.
    AE U.S.Pat. 2876576
In this order as copied from the firearm.

    Dodge,
The "AE" in the stamping indicates YOM to be 1968. On some of the H&R shotguns and .22 cal rifles, serial numbers were not routinely indicated. That changed with the GCA of 1968 which required ALL firearms to have a "unique" identifying serialization. So your 158 must have been made early in that year. My 158 is s/n AH262440, made in 1971 (see pic. below).

Well if it was manufactured in 1968 then how was I able to recieve it for Christmas in 1966. TO the best of my knowledge my parents didn't have a time machine.

Well sir, I'm looking in what is considered to be the foremost authority on firearms, THE BLUE BOOK OF GUN VALUES, 28th Edition, 2007, by Steve Fjestad, turning to page 2029, upper left corner of that page has the H&R Serialization list, cont. from previous page. The list shows AE as being the prefix for 1968 and AC as being the prefix for 1966. Two possibilities present themselves, if we believe the BLUE BOOK to be correct: either you misread the letters on your gun or you've forgotten which year you actually received the gun as a present. Other than that, I've done the best I can for you, now you're on your own.

    Hello Jim and everyone else-

An internet search for information on my H&R revolver yielded this message board thread as a result. I am hoping to find out some information about this gun, which belonged to my late grandfather and recently turned up in my grandmother's house as we cleaned it out.

It is a 6-shot, double-action .32 S&W revolver, nickel-plated finish with black plastic grips. The inscription on the top strap of the frame reads:

    "H. & R. DOUBLE ACTION
    MODEL 04.32.6 SHOT"

The barrel is octagonal and is 2 1/2" long (measured from the muzzle to the breech; I hope my gun terminology is correct). There is a stamped inscription on the barrel that reads:

    "H. & R. ARMS COMPANY
    WORCESTER, MASS. U.S.A."'

There is a serial number stamped on the butt end of the grip. It is 9073.

The pin in the center of the cylinder can be pulled out by first holding in the catch located below the pin on the front of the frame. The whole cylinder than comes out through the side.

The gun is somewhat beat-up in appearance, with quite a bit of scuffing and gouging to the nickel plating in places, and surface corrosion on the visible parts of the hammer, trigger guard, and trigger. The inside of the barrel and the cylinder bores seem to be in decent shape, though dirty. I know that I would have to take this into a gunsmith and have it looked at before it would be safe to fire, but does anyone know offhand if its likely to be made shootable without having to put too much money in it?

I am also wondering as to the approximate date of the gun. I assume that the Model 04 designation means that the gun was originally designed in 1904, but I recall reading that H&R was around up until the 1980s.

Any and all other info is also appreciated. Thanks very much for any help you folks can provide.

    Here are a couple pictures:

I have a Model 900 H&R .22 revolver that was my grandfathers. It is a 9 shot rimfire. It does not fire all 9 rounds and needs a part that neither the gunsmith nor I have not been able to locate.
