solid rib is characteristic of the earlier guns. vented rib is later guns. oversized target grips also early. i have both types with standard grips. mine are single/double, and one of them lost a rear sight blade in the grass one day. still have to make one out of bar stock to replace it. damned screws were loose and the boys were shooting it.

Now I'm crying! I used to have one like that only with a vented rib and slightly smaller grips. I thinks its box was brown. I inherited it a long time ago and sold it so I could buy something bigger and meaner. What a moron I was. Funny how things look different when you grow up. Nice Gun. Happy shooting with it. I am jealous..

My H&R Story - Back in 68 when I graduated high school I wanted a Luger pistol as bad as Ralphy wanted the BB gun in christmass story, well what dad got me, an H&R 999 new in the box. I liked the gun, but the back site always seemed to come lose and it had a rather thin blueing job. I still have it somewhere in the gun safe and I have not shot it in at least 10 years.
