    Default casing question

I was at Dicks today and they sell reloads in boxes of 250 per box. When I open the box it was a mixed match of brass and steal casings. Do the casing pose a wear threat to my gun?

What caliber and loading? What gun do you intend to fire them from?

Any answer you may fget will have to consider those two answers you post.

Now if you are talking 38 SPL wad-cutter or rn for plinking (maybe even target quality, too) most commercial reloaders do not make any distinctrion between brass and NICKEL that they load.

Could it be that you saw shiny nickel and thought it to be steel?

I doubt any commercial reloader would use steel cases for its reloads. Are you sure the silver colored cases weren't nickel plated brass?

As the previous poster stated, there wouldn't be a lot of difference for a commercial reloader to mix plated and non-plated brass. The nickel plated brass has the advantage of having better lube characteristics so the fired brass would be less likely to stick in the chamber(s). The nickel plated brass is also less likely to corrode. The disadvantage of the nickel plating is that it makes the cases a lttle more brittle and subject to cracking, especially with repeated reloadings. A commercial reloader might be using once-fired cases so the differences between plated and unplated brass would be negligible.

While it is possible to reload steel cases, it is generally not recommended and a commercial reloader would not likely use them.

See that word NO. They got it right. Ask most any reloader. We mix and do not match for target shooting. If I want to put togethter a speical load, I match the brass because I want to.

The O.P. wrote "steal casings" instead of "steel casings".
