Why do you "need" an assault rifle?

Anyone ever get this question?

I'm at a bar last night, chatting it up with some guy and we're talking guns, and when I started listing my AK's and AR's, this off-duty [eavesdropping] waitress springs the question.

I just sort of looked at her and rolled my eyes due to the tone in her voice when she asked, but this is not the first time I have been asked this question.

Anyone have any witty answers to this?

My answer goes like this, I don't really need anything other than food, water and a roof over my head. Then I say I have one because I want one and I can.

Then I'll ask, why do you need a car that goes faster than 65 mph, after all that's as fast as you can go by law in PA, then they start to get the picture.

You mean reasons that those sort of people would accept as "valid"?

I'll have to get back to you, cuz' "defense against rioters bent on killing you as they force their way into your home" is not likely one of the reasons that sort of person would see as "valid".

ask them why they need(look them over) an expensive watch, suit, shoes, car, house and so on.

i think all cars should be limited to 65mph, so only the leo has fast cars. you can get there in 1second, but it's all the faster you're going...............

How about a question in response instead.

When you go get brakes, do you go and get the cheapest brakes money can buy, installed by the cheapest place that will do it? How about tires?
