Default AR-15 front rail to low?

Today I got my magpul front and rear back up sights.

Also before getting the front and rear back up sights I noticed that the front rail looked a little bit lower, maybe by 1cm.

Anyways did anyone else have this problem before?

    Without sights:

At first i thought maybe i had to reverse them. but in the manual it showed them the way they are in the picture. also when i reversed the sights the part the flips up hangs off the rail. so then i decided to look up some pictures online of how other people have the magpul backup sights on, and they have them on how i have them on in the picture. so is it the ar 15 front rail that is to low?

    Thanks.

The Magpul MBUS sights were not designed to be mounted on the gas block. The gas block is not on the same plane as the upper receiver rail.

The rear sight is fine, but the front sight is made to mounted on a forend rail.

It does appear the gas block is lower than the receiver rail. Take a yard stick and lay it flat on top of the receiver rail, it should also lay flat on top of the gas block rail for the buis to line up correctly. Use the edge of the yard stick for rigidity.

More important, I'm not sure the Magpul BUIS being plastic and all, will hold up well on the gas block like that.

Did you get your AR like that? Maybe call the manufacturer and ask what kind of sight to install on the gas block.

Yep ... plastic on the GB is not a good thing. Your GB will get hot.

I got it figured out. I didnt think I needed a gas block sight. I figured the front sight i got would just fit on it. I contacted the manufacture and got a recommened sight and an idea on others.

    Thanks for the help.

To clarify - their products are not your run of the mill plastics. Personally I think it would hold up on a semi automatic AR that's not being pushed to hard (bumpfiring mag after mag).

Their "special polymer blend" is really durable. I'd melt a PMAG in the oven to test when they start to warp but I can't bring myself to it.

I like standard FSB with BUIS in the rear, and a RDS between.
