    Oooops!

I shooooould have clarified. NO heat involved. Just a hermetic can sealer, sized for #10 cans. I figure it should hold a 3" revolver, a cleaning kit, and 250 rds.

Maybe even a 2-1/2 S&W 66? Stainless - ah, that would be the ticket.

Maybe a KelTec P-11 and as much.

I don't know if it would take a 1911 even with breaking it down. Hmmmmm, would be worth a try, wouldn't it?

Fill the can with dry nitrogen, add a dessicant pack and an oxygen absorbent. Seal it and it would be just the gift for my grandkids after TSHTF, huh?

I would be careful about the cleaning stuff. You may want to make sure that the vacuum you induce does not blow up that oil or hoppes, and what that will do to the chemical you are storing.

And in 152 years, someone will be digging up your yard to plant tomatoes and will come across your vacuum packed, nitrogen filled goody bag and say "hey, who the heck did this?"

I say put it in the storage box and shoot it when you are ready!

I don't have any experience or knowledge of storing ammunition vacuum sealed. If you can find some reliable information then go for it. Otherwise, I'm going to speculate there is a small chance it could be harmful to powder or primers due to the possibility of chemical sublimation. Or reducing the effectiveness of the neck/primer seals. If not, I would still expect it to perform slightly differently for some time after it is removed from the vacuum seal since the interior of the cartridge will remain under vacuum for a while.

Thaqt's what I'm thinking. I read a number of guys on another forum were shooting WWII spam canned ammo (Garand, 45ACP, and foreign too.) with no malfunctions and no corrosion. And they didn't nitrogen seal them in those days, just vaccum. So I'll stuff an oxygen absorber in it, fill it with dry nitrogen, clap the lid on and seal it.
