Are AK prices still coming down?
I don't have an AK & figure I should get one (along w/ some ammo). Saw a Romanian AK Combo kit (rifle, 2 mags, scope mount, case, sling, mag pouch) at Atlantic Firearms for $479. Is this good? Are prices still coming down?

That's pretty steep for a Romanian. give Classicarms.us or jgsales.com a look.

They are coming down slowly. You missed a great Black Friday Deal at Dunhams for double stack WASR's for $349.

Re: Are AK prices still coming down?
It all depends on what Rahm Emanuel (Obama's Israeli Handler) decided to to do, if he decides that 'the Obama administation" will be a one term administration they will take the gloves off , if not we got 4 more years of decent pricings, it all depends on what Mossad wants to do.

A local guy has std Romys for $419, underfolders for $469.
Maybe look a bit harder IMO, someone in your area has to have deep deals.

Re: Are AK prices still coming down?
I wouldn't expect them to drop a whole lot more than they have. Before the election a Romanian WASR ran anywhere from $350-$450, depending on the shop. That's where they are now.
You could wait around a bit and see if they drop, but even if they do, it won't be more than a few dollars.
An AK type rifle is a gun that will outlast you. It'll be reliable and fires a caliber that is readily available and adequate for many different jobs.
An average price of $400 for a weapon that is capable of so much is a reasonable price to me. If I could get one for $300 that would be great, but a gun that will last my lifetime or more is easily worth $400.

Re: Are AK prices still coming down?
All that said, spend a few more bucks and look for a Yugo AKM; the HUMMV of stamped AKMs.
Pre-ban Yugos were the #3 best AKM available back in the day, behind Valmets and the Valmet-based Galils.
Today's Yugos are re-furbed Yugo AKM parts-sets built up with enough top-shelf USA parts to be 922 legal. Buy one and you'll have an AKM to leave to your great grandchildren. All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

Re: Are AK prices still coming down?
I concur, the Yugo Guns out now, Are very good and wil last a lifetime, but they are not as inexpensive as a Romy. The Roimies actually is a good deal. They are a bit rough but with some TLC they can be sweet

Re: Are AK prices still coming down?
That seems awfully steep for a Rommie.
I have heard stories (not actually see any) of them in the mid $300 - upper $300 range.
At the price you were quoted (and if you have that kind of money) I would have to agree a Yugo is the way to go (or shall we say yugo a go go ). You are probably going to have to spend another $100 on top of that but I'm pretty sure you will be MORE than happy.
Here's a couple on GB

And HELL, if I had seen this earlier you could have grabbed this one!

$449 with no reserve! Ends in 5 minutes!

Re: Are AK prices still coming down?
The Guns 'n Ammo special AK issue last year used a Romy WASR as their covergirl and had high praise for this bargain AK in the articles. Suposedly at least one of the big-name 3rd-party firearms schools uses WASRs due to their cheap toughness.
And CU rates WASRs as an "EBR Best Buy", what more can you ask for.
Watch the classifieds here; like all gunowners, someone is always looking for something different to try and so offers a WASR or Yugo up for sale at good prices.
You can spend more on an AKM clone, but don't really have to when you look at Romy SARs or WASRs, or the Yugo mix-masters that are out there. They are good inflation-fighting values in the AK family.Last edited by nfafan; December 14th, 2009 at 12:45 PM.
