Re: price range for a colt 1911
bit high maybe.
is it this one?
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=149559057
NIB for $800
would be a great base gun to customize
If your not looking to do any work on it the Springfield "loaded" 1911 will have all the bells and whistles on it already at pretty much the same price point.
I belive the model you are referencing does not have upgrades like a beavertail, LW hammer, ambi-safety (if you care), ect.
Not sure if it has slide cuts for decent sights or not.
got a link to the exact model or a picture?Last edited by Shawn.L; December 13th, 2009 at 02:23 PM.

No photos and there are a couple of differences like black metal grips and red dot front sight and if I remember right it does not say mark IV. I found it at redding's in Gettysburg.

Re: price range for a colt 1911
Jerry the Colt will hold it's value well over the years and use.
750 is not a bad price for a 70 series gun.
WHen in good shape it can be very accurate and will serve you well over the years.
You can always offer less!!!
Make sure it hasent been fussed with,,, Like feed ramp polishing.
I have had many 5" Colt 1911s and havent met one yet which isn't a great reliable shooter!!!!
Where did you see it?
You can PM me, I am pretty familiar to most shops near you and may know if you can get it for less.

Re: price range for a colt 1911
I have a series 70 Mark 1V made in 1976, it was my first gun i like it a lot, will never sell it.
$750 for a series 70 is well worth it, you can put on all the ddodads or keep it stock for future investments. Incidentalll y aLL THE PARTS FDROM kINGS GUNWORKS FIT THE SERIES 70 WITHGOUT ANY FITTING JUST DROP IT IN , i did on mine but i kept all the original parts for the future. Get it , a new series 70 is going for about $900.

Re: price range for a colt 1911
i don't think there's any 1911 made by colt that you can buy NIB for less than 800 bucks. the shops in my area sell NIB colts for between 850 and 1000 depending on the model. if you're going to pay 750 for a used gun you may want to add another 100 and get a new gun. if you're not hellbent on getting a colt there are good alternatives out there that are just as good in my opinion and cost less than the colt. springfield armory makes a fine 1911 at a very reasonable price, 650 & up. SW entered the 1911 market a few years ago and their 1911's are great guns and come in under what you would pay for a colt. i've read some mixed reviews on taurus 1911's but they are among the most inexpensive 1911's available and if you can find a rock island 1911 you'll have a damn good no frills gun for very little money, below 500. of all the 1911's on the market the colt will hold it's value better tha any of the others but if you don't plan on ever selling it i would go with the SW or springfield armory guns and use what you save to buy ammo or extra mags.
