Default Pitt Zoo, and Kennywood, security?

So we are planning on going to a few of these places since we are in the area now. Does kennywood, or the Pitt Zoo have metal detectors at the entrance?

While we're on the topic of amusement parks, I can tell you that Hershey Park DOES NOT have metal detectors, nor do they pat you down. However, they do take a quick look in any handbags. They told me it was for booze.

As of 8/06, the Pgh Zoo has no metal detectors. I do not go to Kennywood because of their metal detectors. Their security sucks so any bad-guy can get into the park with a gun, but us LTCF holders need to disarm. BS!

I go to Idlewild in Ligonier. No metal detectors and no gang-bangers either.

Two ways that I know of. First, all employees come in through a different entrance with no metal detectors. That is 100 or so minimum wage, seasonal employees who could very easily bring a weapon into the park for someone else to use.

Second, there are service doors all along the fence surrounding the park. Someone takes out the trash and you could walk right in. Kennywood certainly tries to limit this because they don't want people sneaking in without paying.

Also, if someone wanted to get a gun in, they could leave it next to the fence in one of the remote areas of the park, enter the park, and then pull the gun under the fence. Certainly no law-abiding citizen would do any of this, but an evil doer certainly would.

    Good luck out there.

Thanks. Good to know. What about Cedar Point and Geauga Lake (or "Six Flags Over Cleveland" -- or whatever they're calling it nowadays,) for those of us who hope to have Utah permits soon?

Hello all, new to the forum thanks to BearTitan and the rest of the guys at PMSC.
I can speak for Cedar Point, which does have metal detectors. While it has been a year or so since I have been to a Six Flag Park, I know that the ones in the New England, even the small community parks they have been gobbling up like GL, now have metal detectors. Its seems like they have to abide by their corporate security policies.

As for Kennywood, I agree with Bear's assessment. I had a few friends that worked there just out of the police academies over the last decade, or worked EMS. The park is pretty lax about security and focus on people sneaking in and not sneaking things in, and the park lowballs everyone, including their security (why most are young kids waiting for their break out in town). They get every type of illegal activity you can think of too, from domestics to drugs to gang violence.
